Quick Read: Middle Tennessee Scouting Report
Don’t be fooled #BBN, the Cats have a real team coming into Lexington a Noon today. Here’s some quick notes on today’s competition:
*Middle Tennessee is riding a 4 game win streak and lead the C-USA East Division with a 6-1 conference record.
*Their head coach is in his 13th season and had been bowl eligible 10 of those. Rick Stockstill is always poised and executes his game plans very well. (His son is the QB and has 11,000+ career passing yards. He is on the watch list for several national QB awards.)
* MTSU has a very balanced attack. They have two receivers (Ty Lee, Patrick Smith) who have at least 40 catches, 400 yards, and 5 TD’s. They have three RB’s who can gain big yards on any given play.
*MTSU is averaging 30.4 points per game compared to UK’s 22.9.
*The Blue Raiders average 381 yards of total offense per game.
Granted, many of Middle Tennessee’s stats come against opponents that are much weaker than the typical SEC competition, but this isn’t a game to take lightly. The last time UK played MTSU was in 2008 and the Cats squeaked out a 20-14 win. Kentucky is 5-1 at home this season with it’s only loss coming to a powerhouse Georgia team and the Cats defense allows 10 points fewer per game than the Blue Raiders. Needless to say, Big Blue Nation is ready to see its offense make some big progress this week to build some confidence traveling into Louisville and preparing for whatever Bowl Game we end up with.
