Everything you need to know about Kentucky vs Seton Hall
Who: Kentucky (7-1) vs Seton Hall (5-3)
Where: Madison Square Garden in New York City
About Seton Hall: They are coming off a very good season that saw them lose a close game to Kansas in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. They lost the majority of their key players from last seasons team. That has resulted in a few early season losses, including one at home to Louisville last Saturday. They will likely end up in the NIT, but they are still a quality opponent that will provide a solid test for the Cats.
Who is their star: Myles Powell is a 6’2 junior guard averaging over 22 points per game. He likes to shoot a lot of shots beyond the arc and is capable of getting hot. He has made 5 threes twice this season and scored 40 points against Grand Canyon. Ashton Hagans will get a shot to show his ability to shut down a big scorer once again.
What does Kentucky need to do to win: The recipe for victory is to dominant the glass and own the paint. The Cats need to win the rebounding battle by a wide margin and outscore Seton Hall in the paint. Do those two things and it is highly likely that Kentucky returns to Lexington with a win.
What does Seton Hall need to do to win: They need Powell to get hot from deep and put up huge numbers. On defense they must pack the paint and force the Cats to beat them from the outside. If the Cats can’t make shots it will give the Hall a decent chance to pull off the upset.
What will happen: Ashton Hagans will once again play the part of a human blanket by locking down Powell. Despite their efforts, Seton Hall won’t be able to contain the Cats in the post and it will be a big advantage for UK. On top of that Kentucky will make enough shots from deep to stretch the defense. It will be a close game for much of the contest but eventually the Cats will pull away with a 76-68 win.
What’s next: The Cats will have another week off to practice and prepare to face a good Utah team in Rupp Arena next Saturday.
