John Calipari Is Lining up a Monster Recruiting Class
It is football time in the bluegrass, but John Calipari is in the middle of putting together his best recruiting class in years. He has already secured commitments from BJ Boston who is ranked 12th in the composite rankings and Cam’Ron Fletcher who is 43rd. The duo already has Kentucky ranked 7th in the team recruiting rankings but that should be changing in a big way in the coming weeks.
Lance Ware is set to announce his college decision tomorrow afternoon. He is a 6’9 forward ranked 32nd overall. His commitment would be big for the Cats because he would be the first post player to commit in the class. The Cats will likely have a lot of holes to fill in the front court after this season, so Ware would be a great start. Kentucky is currently seen as the heavy favorite to land him but it will be nice to see it become official tomorrow.
The biggest piece of the recruiting class could end up being Terrence Clarke who is set to announce his choice on Saturday. He is currently in the class of 2021 and is ranked 3rd overall. He is very interested in reclassifying to the 2020 class and the expectation is that it will happen eventually. He is working on getting all of his academic work done so he can join the 2020 class. If that happens, he will be a consensus top 5 recruit in the class. Cal has not signed a top 5 recruit in a few seasons, so a commitment from Clarke would fire up the fan base. He is a 6’7 wing that can play multiple positions. The Cats are the odds on favorites to sign him, but teams are trying to make last minute pushes in the next few days.
If Cal can add Clarke and Ware to Boston and Fletcher it will give him an amazing start to the 2020 class. The crazy thing is that Cal still has multiple elite targets available on the board. When all is said and done it will likely be at least a 6 or 7 man recruiting class with a great shot to be ranked as the top class. Cal has went all in on his position less team concept, by recruiting a slew of long athletic players that can play multiple positions. This will likely end up being the best class that Cal has signed in the last five years.
The football team has a huge game on Saturday and there is a lot of reasons to be excited about where the program is headed. Hopefully Cal can give fans some basketball news to be excited about in the next few days as well. Enjoy this time, because Kentucky sports is in an epic era.
